Was the cult classic Jatt Jeona Morh better than the recently released Maurh?

‘Jatt Jeona’ is a name so big that within a span of 30 years, it’s been made into two big films, Jatt Jeona
Morh in 1992 and recently made Maurh in 2023. Jatt Jeona Morh, a film that every Punjabi is familiar
with, will return to our hearts as it will release on the Punjabi OTT platform Chaupal. A film that made it
huge at the box office 30 years ago, back in 1992, that established a mark of real ‘heroism’, is surely here
to make you reminisce about your childhood days and take you back to an era when Punjabi cinema was
still young.

It was a coincidence that back then it was a three-way clash in Punjab with Jatt Jeona Morh, Khiladi
(Akshay Kumar), and Police Officer (Jackie Shroff) all releasing together. However, Jatt Jeona Morh came
out best in the long run.
With an attempt to make a biopic on Jeona Morh, Jatinder Mauhar’s ‘Maurh’ made an appearance in the
theatres on 9th June 2023. Ammy Virk and Dev Kharoud played their parts perfectly and were loved by
the audience, whereas Guggu Gill’s acting as Jeona Morh was also highly appreciated back then and in
fact is still looked upon by various Punjabi actors. It can’t be missed that both the actors, have immense
following amongst the Punjabi masses.
Where predecessor Jatt Jeona Morh was a massive hit, the successor Maurh, however, despite several
outstanding elements in the film the writing and direction were maybe not up to the mark, and the
overall impact of the topic was lost.
Jatt Jeona Morh is all set to release on the OTT platform Chaupal on 20th July.
Chief content officer, Nitin Gupta, on talking about revisiting topics of yesteryear and making newer
versions of old films said that “Today also there are many stories from the past that are quite relevant
and a hit film out of those stories can be made. Jatt Jeona Morh was a classic film that still runs through
the veins of masses today.”
