AR Rahman is one such composer whose music is enough to make any movie a blockbuster. AR Rahman has left a distinct impression on the hearts of the audience with his songs in films. He has given music for films like ‘Roja’, ‘Bombay’, ‘Taal’, ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Swades’, ‘Rockstar’. Today AR Rahman is celebrating his 57th birthday 6th January 2024. He has a personal life as interesting as his music. In his career, A.R. Rahman gave songs for several films, most of which proved to be hits. AR Rahman born in a Hindu family and his name is Dilip. Then at the age of 23, Rahman converted to Islam and changed his name to ‘Allah Rekha Rahman’ AR Rahman. He change his name after meeting one of his gurus, Qadri Islam.
AR Rahman started his journey as a music composer with Mani Ratnam’s Roza. In this film, Mani Ratnam choose Rahman instead of legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja. Rahman paid fee of Rs 25,000 per day. He also won the National Award for his first film.
People definitely like AR Rahman’s music. Rahman won the National Award six times for his music. Five of these are for Best Music Direction and one for Best Background Score. The first award was won in 1992 for ‘Roja’, the second in 1996 for the Tamil film ‘Meansara Kanvu’, the third in 2001 for ‘Lagaan’, the fourth in 2002 for the Tamil film ‘Kanthil Muthamithal’ and the fifth in 2017 for the Tamil film ‘Kaatru Veliidai’. In 2017 itself, he also won the National Award in the Best Background Score category for the Hindi film ‘Mom’.
Rahman won 2 Oscars in the same year for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Rahman has also composed music for Hollywood films ‘127 Hours’ and ‘Lord of War’. Airtel’s signature tune composed by Rahman himself.
