Today, February 14, 2025, marks the theatrical release of “Chhaava,” a highly anticipated Hindi-language historical action film that delves into the life of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, the movie features Vicky Kaushal in the titular role, with Rashmika Mandanna portraying Maharani Yesubai and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
“Chhaava” is an adaptation of the acclaimed Marathi novel “Chhava” by Shivaji Sawant, offering a dramatized portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj’s life, his valor, and his contributions to the Maratha Empire. The film’s release date holds special significance, coinciding with Valentine’s Day and preceding Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on February 19, honoring Sambhaji Maharaj’s father.
The film boasts a stellar supporting cast, including Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite and Divya Dutta as Soyarabai. The musical score is composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil and Kshitij Patwardhan. The soundtrack features tracks like “Jaane Tu” and “Aaya Re Toofan,” which have already garnered attention for their melodic depth and energetic compositions.
The promotional campaign for “Chhaava” included a teaser released on August 19, 2024, followed by an official trailer on January 22, 2025. These previews have been praised for their compelling portrayal of historical events and characters, heightening anticipation among audiences.
Initially slated for a December 6, 2024 release, the film’s debut was postponed to February 14, 2025, to avoid clashing with other major releases and to align with the culturally significant period surrounding Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti.
As “Chhaava” hits theaters today, it offers audiences an opportunity to immerse themselves in a pivotal chapter of Maratha history, brought to life by a talented ensemble cast and crew.
